Guys, I know that you probably arent going to have much say in this, But when looking at buying a cot, my advice would be to avoid going for a an expensive one. The reality is, if you get a cheaper cot with a good mattress it will do you just as well. your kid is actually going to use it for 2 years or so and and you can then pass it on to some one else or just throw it.

I would say that this would also go for the big cots that then turn into beds, the same money you'l spend would buy you a cheap cot and then a decent full size bed once they need one. This negates the need to buy another bed when they outgrow the small one.

Just my thoughts, but who wants to get stuck with a big bit of furniture with no use after a few years.

Jason,

You raise a good point, however do you not think that if you are thinking of having 2 or more Kids, a better quality cot is a good investment???

I'm with Jason here - it's really easy to get caught in the emotional rollercoaster that is 'my child will have the best of everything'. We bought a bargain basement - but safe and solid - cot and a good mattress and it has served incredibly well. It was really important to me that the mattress was good... but the frame? That's just a chunk of wood that you won't care about in a couple of year's time!

Mothercare sell new cot mattresses which are perfect to use in a second hand cot, don't trust old matresses.

I totally agree Dan. When I said a 'good mattress' in my previous post I should have said... good NEW mattress. That way you know that it hasn't been exposed to smoke or pets or, well, anything.
