Room Thermometer/Grobag egg 3 Years, 8 Months ago Karma: 0
Hi, as it's so importnant for the baby's room to be the correct temperature (16-20 degrees for those who don't know!) I was considering getting a Grobag Egg, which is a room thermometer and nightlight in one. I have now read some poor reviews of it, saying it is not that accurate, has anyone got one? Does it work? If not has anyone got a different one they can reccomend?

Ta.

We tended to use the card thermometers that came free with the grobags - really basic but a useful indicator with no batteries or electric to worry about. To be honest you can spend ages worrying about room temperatures but with central heating you probably have the house around 19-20 which is fine for you and baby. The card thermometers also have a useful temp guide as to which tog to use for which temperature range, or how many blankets/sheets to use.

The egg is a nice idea but ask yourself do you intend to stay in his/her room all night watching the colours and numbers change ?

The hardest thing is in the summer when temps get up and beyond to the 30's, do you use a fan to keep them cool or will that give them a chill, will the mossies get in if the windows are open etc etc - great fun

Jeez - with the little'un due in 6 weeks (July 10 approacheth!) it is very likely that these sorts of problems will face us straight away - so what do we do! I figure blackout blinds will keep out light and heat, and a fan not directly at the kid. A slilent one. Yeh. Too late to get air conditioning fitted?!

Thanks for the advice, sensible, I'll go with that.

I have also heard mixed reports on the egg, we use a tommee tippee suresound monitor, which has a room tempreture gauge on it.

As for black out blinds, I have never used these with either of my kids, they are great except for when you are not at home and dont have them and your kid wont go down because they need pitch black.

In my opinion better to get them used to sleeping with just a set curtains drawn, and you will save yourself pain further down the line.

hi there pal,

if i were you i wouldn't bother with the egg thing, the light isn't strong at all barely a dim glow and the screen isn't the easiest to read either, i don't want to put a downer on it, its a fantastic idea, unfortunately it just does not deliver what it promises, you would be better of using a monitor with built in temperature readings, also that way you are only using one plug socket so you save on power that way too
