Hmmm, can't help feeling this sounds like a gadget invented by marketing people, rather than something that's really useful. But that's just my opinion!

Hi Guys,

Im a father of a 5 yr old boy and got another one on the way (Feb-09). I remember when both my wife and I were 1st time parents we had a monitor that had a temp indicator and an alarm (when too high) on the parent handset - which went on almost as soon as the monitor was switched on.

My son was born in the summer of 2003 - that boiling summer which we just don't get that often. What we found is to take the temperature as a guide but do not let it worry you too much. We could not control the room temperature that much other than getting fan's blowing into the room, but it was just ciculating hot air around. My best advice is, don't over dress them during hot nights. You as parents will get a natural feel for how much clothing the child needs. Also, out parents never had gizzmos like this are we turned out well (well I hope so )

Regards,

Sunny.

My wife and I are expecting our 5th child next year (really need to buy a TV!) and we havent used a room thermometer apart from with our first, we found that it caused more panic than good. We were constantly checking it and panicing if it went a few degrees over the 'right' temp. Basically we found common sense to be the best approach for this area, if its cold you dont put your baby to sleep naked, and if its hot you dont put 100 blankets on them. A basic rule for this we found is to put one more layer of clothing/blanket on your baby than you have. Just go with your instincts and Im sure you will do fine, like Sunny said many generations before us raised babies without all the gadgets we have just fine

The boy is 13 weeks old now - and I did buy the egg. The temp is spot on with it, I checked with others, so it's useful in that regard. I also have a BT150 monitor but the temp on that is always around 2 degrees higher than it actually is.

We don't worry too much when the egg shows red and that it's too hot, you're all right in advocating common sense about this, but it is nice to have the facts at hand to allow your common sense to make a judgement on!
